Hail and insurance

How can I tell if hail damaged my roof?

From the ground, look for dents in gutters, downspouts and vents, and granules piling up at the downspouts. Shingle bruises usually cannot be seen from below, which is why a roof inspection matters.

Do you work with my insurance company?

We work alongside it. We document damage, can meet the adjuster on the roof, and compare their estimate with ours. Your carrier decides coverage.

Will you pay my deductible?

No. Your deductible is your responsibility under your policy, and any roofer offering to cover it is a red flag.

Someone knocked on my door after the storm. Should I sign?

Take your time. Check that the contractor is registered with the Pikes Peak Regional Building Department, will pull a permit, and does not ask you to sign over your claim.

Permits, licensing and insurance

Is there a roofing license in Colorado?

Colorado has no statewide roofing license. In the Pikes Peak region, contractors register with PPRBD and show proof of insurance. The contractors we use are registered and insured.

Who pulls the permit?

We do. Full reroofs and major repairs need a PPRBD permit; small repairs generally do not. The permit fee appears as its own line on the estimate.

Where is the permit office?

The Pikes Peak Regional Building Department is at 2880 International Circle, Colorado Springs. You do not need to go there; we handle it.

Materials and the roof itself

What are Class 4 shingles?

Shingles that earn the highest rating on the UL 2218 impact test. They hold up better to hail than standard architectural shingles and cost more.

How long does a roof last in Colorado Springs?

Usually less than the shingle label suggests, because of hail, sun at altitude and freeze-thaw. Condition matters more than age; an inspection tells you where yours stands.

Can a new roof go over the old one?

Sometimes it is allowed, but we recommend tearing off so the decking can be inspected and repaired.

Do you install metal roofs?

Yes, standing-seam and stone-coated steel. They are popular in the foothills and Woodland Park.

Scheduling and the job

How soon can you inspect?

Call and we will give you a time. After big storms we prioritize active leaks and open roofs, then inspections in the order requested.

Do I need to be home for the work?

No, though we like to walk through the plan with you first and show you the finished roof.

What happens to the nails and debris?

Debris goes in a dumpster or trailer and is hauled away. We sweep the yard and driveway with magnets at the end of each day.

Do you serve military families?

Yes, many of our customers are connected to Fort Carson, Peterson, Schriever or the Air Force Academy. We are not affiliated with any of them and do not offer special military pricing, but we will plan around move and deployment dates.
